Welcome to our website
One of our top priorities is active communication with parents and our community.  This website was designed to be a user-friendly communication tool.  We hope you will find the design aesthetically pleasing and the content current and informative.  Please access the site often for current news, important announcements, student photos, school forms and class information.  We welcome your feedback!

The Paris Elementary SBDM will have a special called meeting this Monday, October 29th at 4:15pm.  


The Paris Elementary SBDM will hold its regularly scheduled monthly meeting on Monday, August 27th at 4pm in the PES Library.  

Paris Elementary School will hold a special election for an open parent seat on the SBDM Council. Please submit nominations to PTO Treasurer, Leslie Morris by emailing

Parent representatives are VITAL to a healthy SBDM and have a great deal of influence in the policies and procedures at Paris Elementary.To be eligible the candidate must be the guardian of a child at Paris. The candidate may not be a paid employee nor the immediate relative (father, son, mother, daughter, or spouse) of a current Paris Schools employee. The candidate must be willing to attend monthly SBDM meetings (and special called meetings as needed) Nominations accepted through 5pm on Thursday, August 2. The election will be on Friday, August 3rd from 11am - 1pm in the front foyer of the school.

Hands On Learning
   Kindergarten students learn the art of paper mache.

After School Classes

The first session of after school classes has begun. Classes being offered are coding, legos, and art. A new session will start in a few weeks. If your child is interested, please contact the office.

Education Grant
 PES received a $50,000 grant to be used for after school clubs,
summer reading, and art classes. Pictured above are Paris alum

Students Enjoy Eclipse
 Students and teachers were given a front row seat
to enjoy and learn about the eclipse.

End of Year Awards
 The 5th graders were given their own banquet and awards ceremony where they were able to walk across the stage. The bottom photo show families attending an award celebration for their kindergartner students.

Muffins with Moms
 PES hosted moms, grandmothers, aunts, sisters, and all other female role models to their annual Muffins with Moms celebration.

1st Grade Play
 First Grade Students present a play for the school and the parents.

Student Competes in Speech Contest
   Kathryn Sturgeon represented Paris Elementary at the Bourbon County 4-H  Speech & Communication Competition. She earned the honor of advancing to the regional competition in Estill County. Kathryn researched, wrote, & presented her speech on The Hidden Secrets of Disney. She received a blue ribbon at regional competition.

Band Plays at Art Walk
 The 5th grade band played several songs for the crowd at the Art Walk.

Child Abuse Awareness
 Students recognize April as Child Abuse Awareness Month by planting pinwheels.

5th Grade Trip
 5th graders took their overnight field trip to the 4-H Camp in Carlisle.

Reading is Fun

Team Recognized
   The elementary academic team was recognized at the monthly board meeting for their success at Governors Cup!

Cardboard Arcade
The Cardboard Arcade Game Night was a huge success! Members of the community came out to support our 3rd Graders! As always, more pictures are available on the Facebook page.

Book Character Day
 Students enjoy dressing up as their favorite book character as part of Read Across America Week.

Field Trip
 As part of Black History Month, 5th grade students were able to take a trip to Louisville and visit the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center.

Dental Health
 Local dentist Amanda Thornberry came and talked to Kindergartners about dental health and gave them all toothbrushes, toothpaste, and floss.

Winter Ball

The Elementary hosted their first ball. A Prince and Princess was crowned from each grade.

100 Days Down
 PES celebrates the 100th day of school by dressing as 100 year olds or wearing 100 items.

Spelling Bee Winners
   Congratulations to the winners of the 4th/5th grade spelling bee. 5th grader Kitty Berry(second from right) was the overall winner and will advance to the county wide bee.
   Congratulations to 3rd grader John Taylor Yazell(center) for winning the 2nd/3rd grade spelling bee.
   Congratulations to 1st grader Jamarcus Foster(center) for winning the K/1st grade bee.

Attendance Reward
  Elementary students were told that if they meet their attendance goal for the month of December then they could duct tape their principal to the wall! Well congratulations PES for meeting your 96% goal!

After School Clubs
PES offers after school clubs to its students to help expand their interests. To see more pictures and read more information click here.

Project Based Learning
Students invited their families to come see the projects they have been working on. Each grade had a different theme ranging from sending goodies to our soldiers to detecting illnesses. More pictures and information will be on the Facebook page and in next week's Bourbon County Citizen.

Student Government
The 5th grade class elected their new government officials.

Veterans Day
PES hosted Veterans for breakfast and a program that included songs and poetry from students. Students were also able to meet the Veterans and tell them Thank you.

New Anti-Bullying Program
PES has planned an amazing anti-bullying kick-off assembly for the new Olweus Bullying Prevention program to be used weekly. The kick-off is on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 1:15 p.m. in our gym. Parents and the community are welcome to attend! The Harlem Ambassador basketball team will perform, and we will learn more about our new anti-bullying program. The 4 school-wide Olweus rules are: 1. We will not bully others. 2. We will try to help students who are bullied. 3. We will try to include students who are left out. 4. If we know that someone is being bullied, we will tell an adult at school and an adult at home.
PES Counselor Donna Combs welcomed the Harlem Ambassadors. Combs will be promoting Anti-Bullying with a program or message once a week. The Ambassadors came to share their stories of Bullying and even used some students in their skit.

Annual Carnival
students paint pumpkins  PES hosted its annual Fall Carnival last weekend. Children and their parents participated in pumpkin decorating, a cake walk, haunted house, games, a raffle and silent auction. More pictures are available on the PES Facebook page.

Exciting Week for PES

The Focus last week was mainly on Homecoming, but more importantly PES saw a huge jump in test scores! They were rated a Proficient School with their increase being in the Top 10% of the state! The top photo shows teachers singing for their students while celebrating their scores.
The bottom photo is the 3rd-5th Grade Homecoming Court. Each grade had representatives and crowned a Prince/Princess at the Homecoming Festivities as part of a fundraiser.

Students Enjoy Field Trips

Students in Kindergarten and 1st grade have enjoyed their field trip days. The Kindergarten class (top photo) toured the Hopewell Museum were they learned how to make a quilt design, look through old photographs, and learn more about the community through an interactive play area.The 1st graders took their trip to the Public Library. They were given a tour of the new and old part of the building and learned how to obtain a library card. The trip was to show how lucky the students are to have access to so many books while they learned about how many children do not have any books at all.

Event Filled Week at PES
Last week PES hosted two big events! They had a family math night for parents and students to come and participate in fun math themed activities. The week ended with the annual Grandparents Day lunch. Grandparents were invited to come have lunch with their grandchildren and then shop at the book fair!
